EBRSO Charges Woman in Murder of Her Child

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested a woman today for the murder of her 18-month-old child after toxicology results revealed a “fatal range for an adult” of Methadone and other drugs in the child’s system at the time of death.

Heather Hidalgo (dob 11/06/76) of 1917 Mariner Drive is charged with First Degree Murder of 18-month-old Isabelle Hidalgo.

On Friday, February 15th EBRSO deputies responded to Mariner Drive at approximately 6:04 a.m. in response to an unresponsive child. Deputies observed Fire and EMS administering CPR on scene prior to transporting the child to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Upon interviewing the other household members, detectives learned the child was born with an addiction to Methadone, as her mother was treated at a local Methadone Clinic throughout the entire pregnancy.

Homicide detectives were contacted March 7th regarding the results of the toxicology testing. These results showed that the child tested positive for "Lorazepam," "Clonazepam," "Alprazolam," and "Methadone." The testing further indicated that both the "Alprazolam" and "Methadone" levels detected in the Victim's blood were well in excess of the "fatal range for an adult." Detectives interviewed Hidalgo on the 7th and she stated she keeps Methadone inside her residence, but denied having involvement in her child’s death. Hidalgo was booked into Parish prison for several outstanding bench warrants that afternoon.

Detectives again interviewed Hidalgo today and she admitted administering the drugs to her child on a daily basis over the course of several months. She will be rebooked into parish prison for First Degree Murder.
