EBRSO Arrests Woman For Attempted Murder of Child

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a woman today for attempted murder of her two-year-old child after he was taken to the hospital in critical guarded condition with neurological impairment and numerous broken bones.

Samantha Snell, 29, of 8562 Rush Avenue is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles.

According to reports, detectives were contacted by Our Lady of the Lake Hospital staff today at approximately 12:45 p.m. after the child was brought in unresponsive and having seizures. According to medical personnel the child suffers from a skull fracture, rib fracture, tibia fracture, right foot fracture and hip fractures. Staff stated the fractures were at different healing stages and non-accidental trauma. The child also sustained trauma to one kidney.

Snell admitted striking the child on October 26th with a belt as a form of discipline for getting water out of the refrigerator. She sated he fell to the ground and struck his head on the tile floor. She said as a result he stopped eating and was in and out of consciousness. She said he slept for approximately fourteen and a half hours and woke exhibiting the same behavior. She then brought him to the hospital for treatment this afternoon. Snell also admitted to biting the child on several occasions a form of discipline.
