Coronavirus (COVID-19) Phase 3 – East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Operations

Updated April 9th, 2021

In continuing to protect staff and our prisoner population as well as the general public we are implementing the following operational procedures and practices. Conditions below that are bolded are updates to the allowances previously provided on September 18, 2020.  Effective Wednesday, April 7, 2021, approved family and friend visitation will reopen.

Delivery of packages (ie UPS, FedEx, etc.) will be allowed to be dropped off in both Unit 1 and Unit 2 lobby areas.

  • Attorneys and all other persons approved to perform official business will be allowed to visit on site, non-contact visitation booths (Female Facility Visiting Booths, East End Unit 2 and Right Side Visiting Booths on Unit 1). All attorneys will be temperature checked and asked questions concerning their health and potential exposure to COVID-19 by guard shack deputies.  All attorneys and those approved to conduct official business must wear masks that cover their mouths and noses at all times.  All attorneys and those approved to conduct official business agree to abide by the social distance protocols posted in the lobby and non-contact visitation areas.  Attorneys and those approved to conduct official business are approved to visit from 8 am to 10 am and from 1 pm to 4 pm, 6 days a week.  Beginning on April 7, 2021, attorney visits and those approved to conduct official business cannot be allowed on Wednesdays due to the reopening of family and friend visitation.  Disinfectant wipes and sprays are provided in all non-contact visitation areas and should be used after each use of the booth and phones.  Please do not use spray directly on phones – utilize the wipes provided to prevent damage to phones.
  • Approved family and friend visitation will reopen on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.  Only 2 adults (17 year olds and older with valid ID) will be allowed per inmate.  Only inmates assigned to general population housing or protective custody may be allowed to visit.  Inmates who are newly incarcerated and assigned to monitoring dorms which are temp checked twice a day, inmates on quarantine dorms, inmates on isolation dorms and inmates on disciplinary detention status will not be allowed to visit until their housing status changes. All visitors will be checked by guard shack deputies – this check will include verification that they have been approved as visitors as well as have temperature checks and be asked questions concerning their health and potential exposure to COVID-19.  All approved visitors must wear masks that cover their mouths and noses at all times.  All visitors agree to abide by the social distance protocols posted in the lobby and non-contact visitation areas.  Visitors are approved to visit from 8 am to 10 am and from 1 pm to 3 pm, on Wednesdays.  Deputies will ensure that disinfectant wipes and sprays are provided in all non-contact visitation areas.  All equipment and surfaces will be sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant after the completion of each visit.
  • Unit 1 lobby capacity is set at 8 and Unit 2 lobby has a max capacity of 5. Guard Shack Deputies will ensure that no more than 8 persons are approved to enter the lobby of Unit 1 at any time and that no more than 5 persons are approved to enter Unit 2 at any time.  Persons include everyone who enters who is not an EBRPP deputy.
  • Notaries are allowed to visit non-contact from 8 am to 10 am and from 1 pm to 4 pm, 4 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Wednesday is reserved for the reopening of family and friend visitation.
