Incident: Carjacking

Carjacking at the corner of Denova and Greenwell St.. On 7-16-2006 at approximately 2:10 am, the victim pulled up to the stop sign and was approached by a b/m, heavy set, 23 to 24 years of age with a tooth missing, short dreadlock type hair style wearing a long white t-shirt. The b/m showed a dark colored revolver and stole the victim's 1995 Chevrolet Suburban bearing la. License plate OMP765. The vehicle has 20" chrome rims with dual tailpipes, dark tinted windows and a white rack on top. The vehicle has chrome side panels also. The vehicle was last seen heading toward Greenwell St. Dy. Incident: Armed Robbery

Armed Robbery in the 7000 block of Maplewood. On 7-15-2006 at approximately 9:15 pm, the victim advised they were at the bus stop preparing to go to work when a b/m placed what the victim thought was a handgun to the back of their head. The victim was robbed of approximately $ 600.00 dollars in cash. The robber is described as a b/m, 21 years of age, 6'2" to 6'3" inches tall, and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. The victim was not injured. The incident was investigated by Dy. Luckett under file # 06-46676. Burglary at 14110 Jackson Rd. location of Carlton's Automotive. On 7-15-2006 at approximately 8:00 am, the owner was in the process of opening up his business and observed the front door had been kicked in. Deputies were notified and responded to the scene. Approximately $ 180.00 dollars worth of beer and alcohol was missing, also noted was $ 73.00 dollars in gasoline was taken. The burglary occurred between the hours of 6:00 pm on the 14th and 8:00am on the 15th. Deputies Womack and Beaudet investigating incident under file # 06-46496. Incident: Aggravated 2nd. Degree Battery

Stabbing in the 6000 block of Starboard. On 7-15-2006 at approximately 9:26 am, three subjects were riding in a vehicle in the area of Starboard and GSRI, the subjects began arguing. Arvin Jones, 42 year old b/m, exited the backseat of the vehicle and approached the victim who was a passenger riding in the front seat. Jones hit the victim with a drinking glass and proceeded to use the broken glass to cut the victim on the arm. The victim was taken to a local hospital where they were listed in stable condition. Jones was treated for injuries he received during the fight at a local hospital. Jones was released and booked into the parish prison for aggravated 2nd. Degree battery. Dy. C. Jones and Cpl. Incident: Attempted Armed Robbery

Attempted Armed Robbery in the 7000 block of Silverleaf. On 7-15-2006 at approximately 7:45 am, a b/m, dark skin, gold teeth, approximately 26 years of age, 5'9" inches tall, 250 pounds, wearing a grey shirt and black sweat pants attempted to rob a homeowner. The subject knocked on the door, the homeowner opened the door and had a handgun pointed at him. The homeowner was advised to get on the floor. The homeowner slammed the door on the weapon; the b/m grabbed the gun and fled the area in a white or grey SUV or pickup truck. Cpl. Curtin is investigating this incident under file # 06-46493. Incident: Illegal Use of a Weapon and Simple Criminal Damage to Property

Illegal use of a weapon and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. On 7-14-2006 at approximately 11:42 pm, Murray Williams Jr. b/m, 25 years of age was angry over a domestic situation with his wife. Williams followed his wife to 5913 Bluebonnet location of Best Buy parking lot. Williams exited his vehicle with a 12 gauge shotgun, the weapon discharged when the subject exited the vehicle. No one was injured; the wife had already left the scene and was safe. Williams proceeded to damage a Land Rover that was parked in the parking lot. Dy's arrested Williams and booked him into the parish prison. Dy. Daigle is handling the investigation under file # 06-46444.

On 7-14-06, Deputies with the S.C.A.T. Division conducted criminal patrols in the Gardere area. Deputies made the following arrests and seizures :

1. Carl Smith - (Male 17) - Charged with Loitering and Possession of Marijuana.

2. Catrina Ignont - (Female 30) - Charged with Possession of Marijuana and 2 counts of Failure to Signal Turn.

3. Christopher Buckley - (Male 18) - Cited for No Seatbelt.

4. Martin Alexander - (Male 23) - Cited for Failure to Signal Turn.

Deputies seized approx. 25.4 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $127.00.

Incident: Illegal Possession of Stolen Things

On Monday July 10, 2006, Uniform Patrol Deputies of the Central Substation stopped a 4 wheeler on Joor Road at Mickens Rd. for riding in the street. Uniform Deputies observed that the ignition switch had been removed and bypassed by "hot wiring" the atv. Deputies ran the VIN of the 4 wheeler, but it was not listed as stolen. None of the individuals operating the atv were able to claim ownership of the 4 wheeler so it was stored in an attempt to locate an owner. Uniform Deputies contacted the Auto Theft Division concerning the 4 Wheeler. Auto Theft Detectives, Lt. Brent Callender and Sgt. Mike Favaro, went to the wrecker yard where the atv had been stored and verified the VIN number. Sgt. Favaro and Cpl. Lann Wolf then were able to track down the owner by contacting the manufacturer. Upon contacting the owner of the 4 wheeler, it was learned that he had not yet noticed that the 4 wheeler was stolen. The atv had been taken from his residence in the Park Forest subdivision. The 4 wheeler was then returned to him in good condition and on July 13, 2006, the following individuals were arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Illegal Possession of stolen things:

1) Deaundre Williams, black male, DOB: 8/22/1988 of 2222 75th Street

2) Cody Minor, black male, DOB: 10/11/1987 of 10315 Toledo Bend

A third suspect, determined to be a 15 year old juvenile, was also charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and referred to Family Court.

The investigation is continuing to locate the person who actually committed the theft of the 4 wheeler.

Incident: Carjacking

A carjacking occurred at approximately 11:09pm this date in the parking lot of Jack in the Box, located at 11682 Plank Rd. The victim was sitting in his 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, license plate W874926, when he was approached by a B/M who was armed with a knife. The armed suspect placed the knife to the victim's throat and entered the vehicle. The victim was ordered to drive away from the parking lot. The victim was taken to Deval Rd., where he was ordered out of his vehicle. The victim was robbed of his personal belongings and the suspect left the area in the Avalanche. The suspect is described as follows: black male, approximately 5'10" tall, 300Lbs, dark complexion, facial hair on his chin, four gold top teeth, wearing a black t-shirt with black pants. Persons with information regarding the identity of the person responsible for this crime are asked to call 389-5000.

Incident: Shooting

Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at 6300 block of Wright Drive. A seventeen year old male was shot once while inside the residence and is being treated at a local hospital for his injuries. The victim was in his bedroom along with two additional persons. Two of them were playing with a handgun when it discharged, striking the victim. The incident is under investigation with possible charges pending the outcome.

UPDATE

Through investigation, it has been determined that a sixteen year old juvenile who resides in the residence was in possession of the handgun at the time of the shooting. The accused was placed into juvenile detention for Negligent Injury, and Illegal Discharge of a Weapon.

Incident: 2 cts. Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, 2 cts. Felony Theft

Continuing their investigation into residential burglaries in the southeast part of East Baton Rouge Parish, Sheriff's Office Armed Robbery and Burglary (A.R.A.B.) Detectives, Sgt. Ken Jackson and Sgt. Billy Welborn booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison 1) Arsenio Ennis, black male, DOB: 4/24/89 of 3032 Montreal Drive with 2 counts Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and 2 counts of Felony Theft. These charges stem from two residential burglaries both occurring on Montreal Drive in the Village Cote Neighborhood.

Detectives previously recovered stolen items from the aforementioned residential burglaries, which ultimately led to the suspect's arrest. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

Announcement: Fake Gold Scam

The Financial Crimes Division has learned that there are 2 Hispanic males, who are approaching victims in an attempt to buy GOLD. Suspects are claiming to get money for an injured family member who desperately needs surgery. One suspect shows a victim a bar of gold (actually brass)approximately the size of a large bar of soap. While the second suspect calls over the first suspect pretending not to know him. Then the first suspect helps convince the victim to purchase the gold bar stating it is a good deal. The victims then withdraws money from a financial institution and purchases the fake gold.

The first suspect is approximately 30 yrs of age, Spanish speaking with Mexican dialect, dark colored hair, very light complexion. The second suspect is a older Hispanic male approximately 60 yrs of age, grey hair, glasses,large nose.

To the Financial Crimes knowledge this scam has not hit the Baton Rouge area as of yet. But residences should be aware of this type of approach.

On July 11, 2006 at 6:00am, a burglary and theft occurred at Southern Scrap, located at 6847 Scenic Hwy. An alert citizen witnessed, Marvin W. Davis of 1878 69th Ave. Baton Rouge, Louisiana walking through the scrap yard while the business was closed. Shortly thereafter the witness observed Williams dragging insulated copper, outside of the business and along the fence line to the business. Deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office were summoned to Southern Scrap. Forced entry had been gained to the Scrap yard and Williams was arrested for the incident. Southern Scrap Yard estimated the value of the insulated copper at approximately $200.00.

Armed Robbery at 6630 Siegen Lane. On 7-11-2006 at approximately 11:44 pm, the victim was sitting on the steps to their apt. when a b/m subject known to the victim as Eric approached the victim. The subject demanded $ 5.00 dollars from the victim, the victim refused. The subject pulled an unknown weapon and asked for the money once again. The victim was struck in the facial area near his left eye with the weapon. A second b/m that was with the subject took the handgun and repeated the request. The victim and the robbers fled the area. Incident: Add Charges: Access Device Fraud, $115,410.51

On June 20, 2006 Financial Crimes Detective issued an arrest warrant for Kimberly Susan Buratt for Identity Theft, Access Device Fraud, Computer Fraud, Forgery, Fraudulent Acquistion of a Credit Card and Felony Theft in the amount of $246,454.01.

On June 27, 2006, The U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force advised that Buratt was in custody in Atlanta, Ga. U.S. Marshal's stated further that Buratt wavied extradition and would be returned to Louisiana. On July 7, 2006, Buratt was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the listed charges.

On July 10, 2006 additional charges of 3cts of Access Device Fraud and Felony Theft in the amount of $115,410.50 were added in connection to the investigation. Total amount of the Theft to the local business stands at $361,864.51.

Incident: Obscenity;Simple Battery;Damage To Property and Disturbing The Peace

Subject Jerry Woodall b/m 02/23/06 of 18700 block of Samuels Rd. was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on 07/10/06, for obscenity, simple battery, simple criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace, after a female victim advised that on 07/08/06, Woodall exposed himself, while outside a residence and grabbed her by the arm and attempted to get he to have sex, prior to her running back to her home. Woodall was located in the 200 block of East Plains Hudson, where he had damage property inside a residence, prior to being apprehended and booked into the prison. This matter was handled by Dy. J Dunaway.

Attempt Armed Robbery at 9656 Burbank, location of Burbank Wireless. On 7-11-2006 at approximately 4:23 am, two b/m subjects broke the front plate window of the store and entered. The owner of the store was on site and startled the subjects. One of the subjects was armed with a handgun. The subjects fled the store without taking anything. The subjects were both wearing white shirts and dark shorts. The subjects were approximately 5'9" to 5'10" inches tall. Theft of Pay Telephone at 13796 Perkins Rd. location of the Circle K Store. On 7-11-2006 at approximately 2:27 am, a witness observed a w/m, dressed in a grey t-shirt and black shorts, driving a white Mazda or Nissan pickup truck pull the pay phone from its location outside the store near the roadway. The subject dragged the phone down the street toward Siegen Lane where he stopped, picked the phone up, and threw it in the bed of the truck. On 7-11-2006 at approximately 1:00 am, Dy's observed a red Toyota Camry operating with improper taillights near the 14000 block of S. Harrells Ferry. During the course of the Dy's investigation, a small marijuana plant was observed in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle had a small quantity of packaged marijuana in his pocket. Deputies J. Hale and Celestin arrested Brandon Theel, w/m 19 years old for the prior listed offenses.

Continuing their investigation into an incident which occurred on April 9, 2006, in the 15000 block of Ferrell Ave., the incident involving the severe beating of a 22 year old white male, subsequent robbery of the victim and then burglary and damage to his vehicle, Armed Robbery and Burglary Detectives, Sgt. Ken Jackson and Sgt. Billy Welborn, on July 6, 2006, charged one Brian William Walker, white male, DOB: 4/26/86 of 15423 Altus Ave. with Aggravated Second Degree Battery, Simple Robbery, Simple Burglary and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. The aforementioned charges were added to Walker who was incarcerated in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on unrelated charges.

On July 10, 2006, A.R.A.B. Detectives Welborn and Jackson arrested the following two (2) individuals for their involvement in the incident occurring on April 9th :

1) Bart Michael Marks, white male, DOB: 6/08/86 of 15927 Ferrell Ave.

2) Johnnie Norton Musso Jr., white male, DOB: 8/01/86 of 4838 Front Royal Dr.

Marks and Musso were both booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Simple Robbery, Second Degree Battery, Simple Burglary and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.

On July 7, 2006,Uniform Dy. Carla Curtis of the Central Substation responded to the Rite Aid store at 11080 Greenwell Springs Rd. in reference to a burglary of the pharmacy. Upon arrival, Dy.Curtis learned that an individual had entered the store, before closing, and had broken into the pharmacy by smashing a door window that led into the pharmacy.An employee,hearing the window being broken,proceeded to the rear of the store where the pharmacy was located.The employee observed the suspect in the pharmacy and upon being noticed,the suspect ran toward the employee with a hammer.The suspect then ran out a side door and was seen leaving on a motorcycle. The employee was not injured.

Conducting a follow-up investigation, Armed Robbery and Burglary Detectives, Lt. David Blackwell and Sgt. Billy Welborn, a few hours after the incident occurred, arrested Aaron Joseph Beyl,white male, DOB: 9/25/1980 of 13507 O'leary Ave., B.R.,La., for the crime. Beyl was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

On July 7, 2006, Detectives from the Financial Crimes Division, arrested Augustus Jacobs of Baton Rouge at a local business after he used another person's credit card. Jacobs had established a cell phone account in the individual name who had lost the card. After investigating the use of the credit card found that the credit card was used at several local business to buy merchandise which was later sold by Jacobs. Due to the fraudulent activity the victims credit card company is suffering a financial loss of $1,418.97.

Addition charges for Jacobs at the time of arrest are: Access Device Fraud, Forgery, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Schedule II (cocaine).

Jacobs was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and there booked on the listed charges.

On July 6, 2006, Robert Farrar of Mandeville surrender himself to Financial Crimes Detectives pursuant to an Arrest Warrant. Farrar participated in a scheme to defraud a banking institution of $11,500.00, by converting bank funds into unauthorized bank checks as payment for fraudulent appraisal fees. The misappropriated funds were then dispursed between Sean Riecke, Rebecca Rowinsky and Farrar. Riecke and Rowinsky have a been arrested. Farrar was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and there booked on the listed charges.
