At 03:34am on June 24, 2006, a burglary occurred at 11560 Plank Road, the location of Slaton's Gun-smithing shop. Witnesses to the burglary observed three black male subjects occupying what could possibly be a dark colored Toyota Camry. Two of the B/M subjects were observed to exit the vehicle and proceed towards the business. A short time later, the two subjects returned and re-entered the vehicle. After the vehicle left the area, the witness investigated their actions and discovered the burglary. Persons with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 389-5000.

At approximately 10:15pm, deputies responded to the 9000 block of Conti Dr., in reference to shots being fired into a residence. Someone for unknown reasons fired two gunshots into a window of the residence. On June 8, 2006, Sgt. Mike Davis of the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division (A.R.A.B.), investigated the theft of a pickup truck tailgate. Unknown to the person removing the tailgate, he was taking it from an unmarked Sheriff's unit. Forensic evidence left at the scene almost immediately identified the suspect as one Todd Joseph Hebert, white male, DOB: 12/10/85 of 15328 Waywood Avenue. Sgt. Davis recovered the stolen tailgate and on June 13, 2006, issued a warrant for Hebert's arrest, charging him with Simple Burglary and Felony Theft.

Todd Hebert turned himself in to Sgt. Davis on 6/15/06, at which time he was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in accordance with the arrest warrant.

On Thursday, 6/22/06, at 4:09am, Deputies from the Kleinpeter Substation responded to alarms coming from Tobacco Express, 14590 Old Hammond Hwy. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the front doors open and the ATM machine from inside the store removed. Later, during the early morning hours, Sgt. Andrew Stevens of the Kleinpeter Substation observed two black males fitting the description of the suspects near the BREC Park on Longfellow. With assistance from Cpl. Darryl Michelli of the Scotlandville Substation, the two deputies were able to detain the two individuals. Detectives from the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division were immediately on the scene and began their follow-up investigation.

As a result of the investigation conducted by Sgt. Roger Corcoran, Cpl. Brent Travis and Det. Steven Gallo, the two (2) black males were charged with 5 Cts. of Simple Burglary, 4 Cts. of Felony Theft, 1 Ct. of Attempt Felony Theft and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. Besides the burglary of Tobacco Express, the two were charged with the burglaries of the Cracker Barrel, 11450 Airline Hwy. on 6/12/06 (06-38276), Natalies Food Mart, 11440 Perkins Rd. on 6/17/06 (06-39545), the burglary and attempt theft from Frog's One Stop, 17070 Greenwell Springs Rd. on 6/17/06 (06-39533) and the burglary and subsequent theft of a commercial van from the Industriplex area (06-40470).Many uniform patrol deputies from both the Kleinpeter Substation and Scotlandville Substation assisted in the investigation as well as members of the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division (A.R.A.B.) and Auto Theft Division. The two individuals charged were Robert Wayne Christopher, black male, DOB: 10/14/71 of 3130 Lorraine St. and Dewayne Marquis Christopher, black male, DOB: 4/02/84 of 2562 Iberia St. The investigation is continuing.

Announcement: Counterfeit Currency ****** WARNING **********

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office "Financial Crimes" Division would like to inform all merchants and individuals that they should be on the alert for counterfeited $100.00 bills. Local bank officials as well as the U.S. Secret Service have recovered over $6,000.00 in counterfeited $100.00 bills during the month of June. These "counterfeit" $100.00 bills were legitimate $5.00 bills that have been fraudulently altered into $100.00 bills. Since the counterfeited bills are made from real currency paper, they will not be detected by the use of a counterfeit detection pen.

The counterfeit $100.00 bills still have the watermark of Abraham Lincoln's face and still have the denomination "Five" printed on the embedded security strip. Check these security features when accepting a $100.00 bill. Don't rely on the detection pen alone.

The recovered counterfeit $100.00 bills are bearing the serial numbers AK56533125A and B99048252A.

Anyone with any information regarding who is responsible for passing these "counterfeit" $100.00 bills are encouraged to contact the U.S. Secret Service at (225) 389-0763 or the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office "Financial Crimes" Division at (225) 389-5009.

Burglary at 8318 Mickens, location of Burris Greenhouse. On 6-23-2006 at approximately 2:31 am, Deputies responded to an alarm at the prior listed business. Upon arrival, Dy's Luckett and Robinson observed the back door to the business had been kicked in. Dy's learned from the owner that some items had been disturbed, but nothing was missing. On 6-22-06 , Deputies with the S.C.A.T. Division and Narcotics Division conducted a criminal patrol in the Gardere area. Deputies made the following arrests and seizures :

1. "Juvenile" – (Male 16) – Charged with Possession of Marijuana & Loitering.

2. Maurice Jackson – (Male 22) - Charged with Possession of Marijuana , Loitering and Loud Music.

3. Ron Hall – (Male 18) – Charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine (Affidavit Warrant).

4. Kayontania Hall – (Female 34) – Charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, Drinking in Public & Disturbing the Peace (Bench Warrant).

5. Eric Kinchen – (Male 24) – Charged with Possession of Marijuana & Headlights Required.

6. "Juvenile" – (Male 15) – Charged with Possession of Marijuana & Loitering.

7. Naquincy Pierson – (Male 18) – Charged with Possession of Marijuana & Loitering.

8. Roland Turner - (Male 44) – Charged with No Light on License Plate.

Deputies seized approx. 15.0 grams of suspected crack cocaine with a street value of $1500.00, and approx. 63.7 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $318.50.

Attempted carjacking, armed robbery and kidnapping at 10445 Reiger Rd. location of the Motel 6. On 6-22-2006 at approximately 7:40 pm, the victims were walking to their vehicle from the Motel 6 when 2 b/m subjects approached them. The b/ms jumped into the backseat of the victims 2005 white Nissan Altima, showed a knife, and forced the victims to drive to the area of GSRI and Port. The subjects took $ 5.00 dollars and 2 packs of cigarettes from the victims. The subjects cut one of the victim's tires and fled the area. One of the b/ms was described as wearing a white t-shirt and shorts. The second b/m was wearing a black tank top, braided hair and gold teeth. The victims were not harmed. On Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the EBRSO Narcotics Division concluded an investigation relative to the distribution of marijuana throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. At approximately 11:45pm on this date Narcotics Division detectives with the assistance of the EBRSO SWAT team executed a search warrant at 16060 Nehru Ave. Apartment # D in Baton Rouge, LA 70816. The search of the apartment resulted in the seizure of twelve pounds of marijuana. Alan Sanchez (H/M 06/13/1979) was found to be occupying the apartment and in violation of Possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Sanchez was subsequently booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

On Thursday, June 15, 2006, Sheriff's Office Armed Robbery and Burglary detective, Sgt. Joey Caillouet, working with Special Agents of the FBI, located one William C. Howard, white male, DOB: 1/29/76, at his residence, 14740 Florida Blvd., lot # 7. Howard was placed under arrest as a Fugitive from the Union City Police Department, Randolph County, Indiana, in accordance with a warrant issued for his arrest charging him with Criminal Deviate Conduct and Child Molesting. Howard was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Authorities have been looking for Howard for approximately one year as he continued to elude investigators and avoid arrest.

On June 20, 2006, Financial Crimes Division Detective Kevin Chenier arrested Clarence Posey of 5424 Hickory Ridge Drive, Baton Rouge, LA for Forgery and Injuring Public Records. Clarence Posey was initially arrested on May 2, 2006, for Theft (excess of $500.00) and Filing False Public Records after he executed a scheme in which he sold a piece of property located in East Baton Rouge Parish and attempted to sell a second piece of property, of which he was not an authorized seller or owner, and filed a fraudulent cash sale agreement with a public office causing the victim to suffer a financial loss of $215,646.42. Clarence Posey is also alleged to have forged the signature of another person to a legal document, which was fraudulently prepared and was to be filed with a public office in furtherance of his scheme.

On Friday, June 16th 2006, the Financial Crimes Division conducted a search warrant for a business located at 2195 Dallas Drive, Baton Rouge, LA. As a result of this search warrant detectives were successful in collecting evidence on Brena Gasaway of 10027 Bookerline Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA. Brena Gasaway had been previously arrested for opening checking accounts with local banking institutions within East Baton Rouge Parish with fraudulent checks made out to large amounts and then withdrawing the funds from the account before the checks returned as "Account Closed", creating large losses to these institutions. This search warrant was the results of another case where it is alleged that Brena Gasaway opened another checking account with another financial institution within East Baton Rouge Parish, then deposited three checks drawn on "closed" accounts. He later withdrew the deposited the funds, creating a loss of $12,374.56 to the banking institution.

While conducting the search warrant it was found that the building was receiving electrical power by fraudulent means after the power had been previously disconnected by the power company therefore creating a loss to the power company.

Brena Gasaway was subsequently arrested for Theft ($12,374.56), Bank Fraud, Monetary Instrument Abuse and Theft of Utilities ($1,900.00).

On June 19, 2006, "Financial Crimes" Division detectives Lt. Richard St. Pierre and Sgt. Don Keller arrested Mailliw Jackson at his residence located at 2112 General Lee Drive, Baton Rouge, LA pursuant to three Affidavit Arrest Warrants for "Issuing Worthless Checks". Mailliw Jackson had previously issued three checks to two different Baton Rouge area merchants for purchased merchandise. These three checks were later returned "unpaid" to the merchants causing the merchants to incur a total loss of $810.07.

On June 16, 2006, "Financial Crimes" Division detectives Deputies Phillip Brocato and Farrell Fabre' arrested Michael Glaser at his residence located at 18333 Oaklane Drive, Baton Rouge, LA pursuant to an Affidavit Arrest Warrant for "Issuing Worthless Checks" (1 count) due to issuing a check in the amount of $6,193.13 to a local Baton Rouge area merchant. This check was later returned "unpaid" to the merchant causing the merchant to incur a $6,193.13 monetary loss.

The suspect is wanted for embezzling over $245,000.00 from her previous employer. She is known to have contacts in Prairieville and in Las Vegas. Burglary at 14520 Old Hammond Hwy, location of Tobacco Express Discount Outlet. On 6-22-2006 at 4:09am, Deputies responded to an alarm at the prior listed business. Deputies observed the front double doors to the business were open. Upon further investigation, the ATM located within the store was taken. Deputies are searching for silver in color Ford Econoline Van with writing on the back; the right front hubcap is missing. The occupants of the van were described as 5'7" to 5'9" inches tall, stocky build, wearing dark ski mask and white gloves. One of the subjects was wearing a dark shirt with Khaki pants and white tennis shoes. The second subject was wearing a dark shirt, blue jeans and white and dark tennis shoes. Armed robbery at the corner of Southpark and Ansley. At approximately 1:40 am, the victim was driving on Southpark near Ansley when a b/m subject armed with a long black semi-auto handgun jumped in front of the victim's vehicle. The victim was forced to drive the b/m and his accomplice to 10877 Ansley where three additional b/m subjects met them. The victim's shoes, wallet and watch were taken. The robbers fired a shot at the victim as they fled the scene. The victim was not injured. The victim's vehicle was recovered. One of the robbers is described as 18 to 20 years of age, 5'10" inches tall, weight approximately 130-150 pounds, wearing a black hat and black shirt. The second subject that got into the vehicle was a b/m, light complexion, approximately 20 years of age, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. Deputies seized approx. 95.6 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $478.00 , approx. 12.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $1250.00, approx. 12.0 grams of suspected crack cocaine with a street value of $1200.00, Twenty (20) methadone pills with a street value of $200.00, One (1) and one half Lortab pills with a street value of $30.00 , One Xanabar pill with a street value of $20.00 and two crack cocaine smoking devices.

Continuing their investigation into residential burglaries in the southeast part of East Baton Rouge Parish, Sheriff's Office Armed Robbery and Burglary (A.R.A.B.) Detectives, Sgt. Roger Corcoran and Cpl. Stephen Hill booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison 1) Byron Cardell Ball, black male, DOB: 2/14/89 of 6555 Vinyard Ave. and 2) Shon Kaleialoha McLeod, black male, DOB: 2/17/89 of 10448 Bronzebush Ave. Each were charged with 3 cts. Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, 3 cts. Felony Theft and 3 cts. Simple Criminal Damage to Property. These charges stem from residential burglaries on Mourning Dove Dr. (file # 06-26076), Norwich Dr. (06-33637) and Antietam Ave. (06-36411).

Detectives recovered approximately $6000.00 in stolen property which included TVs, Cameras, Laptop Computers, Desktop Computers, Video equipment,XBOX and several shotguns. Dets. are still trying to identify the locations from where much of the recovered items were taken, however, the suspects advised that most came from the Shenandoah and Sumberg Ln. areas. Ball and Mcleod were charged by detectives on 6/15/06. During the search of a residence at 10846 Leton Ave. on 6/14/06, Detective Hill, assisted by Uniform Patrol Dy. Kyle Webb of the Kleinpeter Substation, arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, one Brian Scott Rackley, white male, DOB: 3/01/88, of 10846 Leton Ave., with Possession with Intent to Distribute Sch. 2 Narcotics, Poss. of Sch. 1 Narcotics and Poss. of drug paraphernalia.

Continuing his investigation into the Armed Robbery of an indiviual in the parking lot of the Target Store, 6885 Siegen Ln., which occurred on May 31, 2006, Sgt. Ken Jackson of the Sheriff's Office Armed Robbery and Burglary Division (A.R.A.B.), on Saturday, June 17, 2006, charged one Jonathan Lanaute, black male, DOB: 7/14/84 of 1825 Starboard Dr. with one count of Armed Robbery. Lanaute was already incarcerated in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Accessory After the Fact of Armed Robbery stemming from an investigation by A.R.A.B. Detective Steven Gallo into the Armed Robbery of an individual in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 10606 North Mall Drive, which occurred on June 6, 2006. Detective Gallo placed Lanaute in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on June 15, 2006, in reference to the Wal-Mart robbery. On June 16, 2006, one Julius Bess, black male, DOB: 12/04/88 of 8271 Skysail Ave. was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, charged with Armed Robbery, in accordance with a warrant issued by Detective Gallo as a result of his investigation into the Wal-Mart robbery.

Update

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office has arrested Kirby Hall in connection with the Murder and Robbery, which took place at 8686 Coy Avenue at the Broussard Plaza Apartments. Family members of Kirby Hall brought him to the Detective Office approximately 9:20 PM last night where he was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Attempted Simple Robbery and Simple Battery. He was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and booked.

The investigation is still on going.

A continuing investigation by Sgt. Ken Jackson of the Sheriff's Office Armed Robbery and Burglary Division (A.R.A.B.) into the burglary of a portable storage building which was located at the Brec Park, 13300 Cedar Ridge Avenue, reported on May 22, 2006, has resulted in the arrest of two adults and one juvenile. Investigating this burglary, led to the clearance of two other vehicle burglaries reported to the Sheriff's Office, the recovery of hundreds of dollars of reported stolen merchandise from the portable storage building and vehicles and further supplied information to BRPD burglary detectives to assist them in resolving two vehicle burglaries currently under investigation by that agency.

Arrested as a result of Sgt. Jackson's investigation were David Brian Knutsen, white male, DOB: 6/27/87 of 1351 Sherwood Forest Blvd., charged with three (3) counts of Simple Burglary and three (3) counts of Felony Theft and Preston Kilian, white male, DOB: 10/25/86 of 16725 Merrimac Ave. charged with one (1) count of Simple Burglary and one (1) count of Theft. A juvenile was referred to Family Court charged with one (1) count of Simple Burglary and one (1) count of Felony Theft. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

At approximately 12:10am this date, a business burglary occurred at 10675 Coursey Blvd., the location of Anton's Fine Jewelry. An unknown person forced entry into the business and fled the area prior to the arrival of deputies. Persons with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 389-5000.

Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Detective, Sgt Michael Favaro, continuing the investigation of the theft of a 1987, 16 foot utility trailer, La. Lic.# E0534808, along with a Maytag washer and dryer and an electric stove, which were stolen on 05/23/2006 from 1487 Heck Young Rd. Zachary La., subsequently issued an Arrest Warrant for the arrest of one Willie McPipe, B/M, DOB: 09/04/1953, of 1232 Flonacher Rd. Zachary, La. Auto Theft Detectives Lt. Brent Callender and Cpl. Lann Wolf on 06/16/2006 booked Willie McPipe into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in accordance with the Warrant for Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. Willie McPipe was the second person arrested in connection with the trailer and appliances. Auto Theft Detectives on 05/25/2006 also arrested one Ronald Wells B/M, DOB: 05/28/1959 OF 488 E. Flonacher Rd. Zachary La., after recovering the trailer and appliances on his property.

On 6-17-2006, members of the Sheriffs Office SCAT Team and Narcotics Division conducted criminal patrols in the Glen Oaks Area. As a result of these patrols, Deputies arrested the following individuals:

1. John Thompson (Male 27) arrested for pwitd marijuana, loitering and poss. of cocaine.

2. Darnell Walker (Male23) arrested for poss. of cocaine, open container and loitering.

3. Dakeith Hall (Male 19) arrested pwitd marijuana and loitering.

4. Richard Williams (Male 18)arrested for pwitd cocaine, loitering and open container.

5. Emmett Floyd (Male 32) arrested for poss. of drug paraphernalia.

6. Acy Shelton (Male 34)arrested for poss. of marijuana and loitering.

7. Quy Cao Do (Male 43) arrested for letting a disorderly place.

8. Dennis Beshears (Male 19) arrested for open container and loitering.

9. Anthony Hicks (Male 18) arrested for loitering.

10. Brandon Mencer (Male 21)arrested for drinking in public and poss. of marijuana.

11. William Brown (Male 28) arrested for drinking in public.

Deputies also seized the following, approximately 75.1 grams of marijuana with a street value of $ 375.50 dollars, 23.5 grams of cocaine with a street value of $ 2350.00 dollars and one crack cocaine smoking pipe.

1. Steven Allen (Male 25) issued traffic citation for no seatbelt.

2. Antwan Lang (Male 23) arrested for poss. of Marijuana and loitering.

3. Dwayne Bradley(Male 18)arrested for Pwitd marijuana, Dist. of marijuana, loitering and resisting arrest.

4. Elmore Dorsey (Male 34) arrested for poss. of marijuana.

5. Samuel Jackson (Male 37) arrested for ill. carrying of a weapon and loitering.

6. Ernest Kerr (Male 38)arrested for letting a disorderly place.

7. Julius Bess (Male 17) arrested on affidavit warrant for armed robbery.

8. Adrian Holden (Male29) arrested for open container.

9. Kris Hairston (Male 24) arrested for open container.

10. Market White (Male 30) arrested for open container.

11. Shannon White (Male 22) arrested for open container.

12. Lester Hutton (Male 23) arrested for open container.

Deputies seized approximately 48.6 grams of marijuana with a street value of $ 243.00 dollars and one Hi-Point.45 caliber semi-auto handgun.
