Illegal use of a Weapon at 14500 Old Hammond Hwy. On 5-19-2007 at approximately 11:18pm, Deputies were dispatched to the prior listed address in reference to shots being fired from a vehicle. Witnesses observed an unidentified person or persons firing what is believed to be a handgun from a small dark colored vehicle. No further details are available at this time. No injuries were reported. Deputies are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the vehicle or driver associated with this incident. Dy. C. Burglary at 10485 Airline Hwy. location of Wedge Kyes Import Specialties. On 5-19-2007 at approximately 1:48pm, Deputies responded to the prior listed location in reference to a burglary of the business. Dy. S. Williams was advised by the compl. that the business closed between 9:15 and 9:30pm on 5-18-2007 and was opened on 5-19-2007 at approximately 1:48pm, when the compl. discovered the cash drawer had been pried open and removed. An estimated $ 500.00 in cash along with assorted documents and receipts were also in the drawer. The compl. advised the documents and receipts will not be of use to anyone. No signs of forced entry were observed. Dy. S. Williams investigated this incident under file # 07-32708. On May 12, 2007, a 1997 Ford Aerostar Van, VIN 1FMCA11U2VZA54657, was reported stolen from a car lot located at 5265 Airline Hwy. The offense was reported to the Baton Rouge City Police Dept. under file# 48180-07. The vehicle was last seen at 2200 hours on May 11, 2007. On May 11, 2007, at approximately 2300 hours, this vehicle was stopped for traffic violations by an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office patrol unit. The vehicle was being operated by Jeremy McKenzie, black male, D.O.B. 1-17-89 who resides at 6626 McClelland Drive #4, Baton Rouge La.. McKenzie was issued several tickets for the traffic infractions and released due to the vehicle not having been reported as stolen. It was learned through investigation that McKenzie is employed by the victim, however he does not work for, or at the dealership, and he did not have permission to use the van at any time. On May 16, 2007, Auto Theft Detectives attempted to make contact with McKenzie, but were unsuccessful. Cpl. Lann Wolf wrote out a warrant for the arrest of McKenzie for a violation of L.R.S. 14: 68.4 Titled Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Cynthia Marcelin (B/F, 42 years old) was charged with Bank Fraud and Attempted Theft after she opened 4 new bank accounts at LA Capitol Federal Credit Union, Whitney Bank, and Hancock Bank.

After the new accounts were opened, she wrote checks from each one and deposited them into one of the others. She did this in an attempt to inflate the account balances and withdraw money before any of the checks bounced. Marcelin deposited 4 checks totaling $68,000.00.

Marcelin attempted to withdraw funds at Whitney Bank, but tellers became suspicious and denied the transaction. She was later arrested at Hancock Bank before she could commit any further fraud.

Attempted Second Degree Murder/Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm at 8117 Skysail. On 5-15-2007 at approximately 6:15pm, Cpl. R. Decuir along with responding Deputies investigated a report of shots being fired in the 8100 block of Skysail. Deputies located the victim an uninjured 26 yoa B/M. Investigating Deputies were advised that the victim and the accused were involved in a heated argument over a missing household bank containing an unknown amount of money. The accused left the street where the argument was taking place and returned with a handgun firing several rounds at the victim, the victim was not struck or injured. The accused fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The accused is identified as Toliver Terell Lyons B/M DOB 4/3/87 described as 5' 5" inches tall 150 pounds last seen wearing a white tank top T-shirt and dark colored shorts. Deputies are requesting the public's assistance in locating Toliver Lyons. The accused is considered armed and dangerous. Cpl. R. Decuir is investigating this incident under file # 07-31755. On 05/11/2007, at 2230hrs, Det. James Dipuma, of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffs Office, Armed Robbery and Burglary Division, arrested one, Lee Arthur Hawkins, B/M, of 13675 Coursey Blvd., Apt# 1613, Baton Rouge, La. on (10)cts, Simple Burglary, (4)cts, Simple Criminal Damage To Property, (8)cts, Theft, stemming from several vehicle burglaries he committed at 13675 Coursey Blvd, Baton Rouge, La. Hawkins was arrested and booked into the Parish Prison accordingly. The following cases were cleared through this investigation: 07-30745, 07-30751, 06-69935, 06-86524, 06-86832, 07-002939, 07-002931,07-003004, 07-15468, and 07-17749.

On May 9, 2007, Cpl. Lann Wolf was assigned to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle having been traded to a car lot for another vehicle. Through investigation, it was learned that on August 03, 2006, Cardell Nolan Hardin, black male D.O.B. 12-29-1976, of 6630 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge La., had stolen a 2002 Nissan Altima by fraudulent means from Royal Nissan, and on March 29, 2007, traded that vehicle to Auto Brokers of Louisiana for a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. Both vehicles were recovered and released to their respective owners. Hardin had been arrested a week prior to the start of this investigation for the theft of the Nissan Altima. On May 15, 2007, Cpl. Wolf added a charge of Felony Theft (L.R.S. 14:67) reference to the Chevrolet Suburban, to Hardin who was still incarcerated at the Parish Prison.
