Incident: Illegal Use of a Weapon and Resisting an Officer
Illegal Use of a Weapon and Resisting an Officer at 5131 E. Hunters Chapel Court. On 1-13-2007 at approximately 10:30pm, Deputies responded to the prior listed address in reference to shots being fired in the area. A witness provided Deputies with a description of the subject firing the handgun along with the vehicle they were driving. Deputies observed a subject and vehicle fitting the description given by the witness. The subject refused to cooperate with Deputies during the course of their investigation. Deputy R. Evans and Cpl. E. Fagot observed the clothes worn by the subject at the time the complaint was called into the Sheriffs Office along with the handgun located inside of the vehicle. Several cooperating witnesses identified Oran J. Haynes B/M 30 years of age as the person firing the weapon. The accused was charged and booked into the parish prison on the above listed charges. Incident: Damage to Property, Criminal Mischief and Trespassing
Damage to Property, Criminal Mischief and Trespassing at 6450 Guynell location of Sharon Hills Elementary School. On 1-13-2007 at approximately 10:54pm, Deputies responded to the prior listed location in reference to several juveniles breaking into a classroom. Deputies from Central and Scotlandville Substations responded to the school. Deputies observed the door to classroom number 6 had been forced open. Deputies arrested the four B/M juveniles responsible for the damage. The juvenile's ages ranged from 12 to 14 years of age. The juveniles were charged and released to the custody of their parents. Dy. F. Rose who was working an off-duty assignment for the school board investigated this incident under file # 07-002869.
Incident: Simple Robbery
Simple Robbery at an unknown location on Derby Street. On 1-13-2007 at approximately 4:11am, the victim was enroute to a residence on King Bradford when the victim took a wrong turn on Derby Street. While attempting to turn around, the victim was approached by three unknown B/M's and one B/F. The subjects removed the victim from their vehicle and took approximately $150.00 dollars in cash and a machete. The victim was struck several times by the subjects with their hands and feet. The victim suffered minor cuts and bruises. The subjects were identified as follows: Suspect #1. B/M 5'2" inches tall wearing a white T-shirt. Suspect # 2. B/M 5'6" inches tall wearing a black T-shirt full of colors. Suspect # 3. B/M 6'3" inches tall wearing a black long sleeve T-shirt. Suspect # 4. B/F 5'8" inches tall approximately 260 pounds. Incident: Armed Robbery
Armed robbery at 7270 Greenwell Street location of Rite Stop Food Store. On 1-12-2007 at approximately 8:44pm, Deputies were dispatched to a local hospital in reference to a victim that was robbed while leaving the Rite Stop Store. The victim received minor injuries during the robbery. During the course of the investigation the victim stated at approximately 7:15pm, they were leaving the store approaching Greenwell and Denova Street when approached from behind by two or three B/M's. The B/M's demanded the victim's money striking the victim several times on the head with an unknown metal object. The subjects took the victims wallet containing approximately $ 207.00 dollars in cash cell phone and one 18 inch gold chain with a cross. The subjects fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. Incident: Narcotics Arrest and Traffic Enforcement
On 1/10/07, Deputies with the S.C.A.T. Team, Armed Robbery and Burglary and Narcotics Divisions conducted criminal patrols in the Gardere, Southpark, Orleans, and Glen Oaks areas. Deputies made the following arrests and seizures:
1. Joshua Jones - (Male 22) - Arrested for Possession of Marijuana.
2. Richard Magitt Jr. - (Male 22) - Cited for No Light on License Plate and No Driver's License on Person.
3. Rodney Hall - (Male 40) - Arrested for being a Fugitive from Orange County Sheriff's Office (Florida) and No Turn Signals.
4. Harry Murray - (Male 53) - Arrested for Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
5. Cindy Albin - (Female 46) - Arrested for Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and No Seatbelt.
Deputies seized approx. 24.4 grams of suspected cocaine with a street value of $2,440.00. Deputies also seized approx. 42.1 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $210.50.
Incident: Illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, Simple possession of marijuana
On 01/09/2007, at approximately 1800 hours, Auto Theft detective Cpl. Lann Wolf, was in the 4400 block of Perkins Rd. when he observed a subject sitting in traffic smoking from a large glass pipe. Cpl. Wolf observed that these types of pipes are commonly used to smoke Marijuana. Cpl. Wolf initiated a traffic stop on the subject and identified the driver as Chase Burke Ohmstede (w/m 2-14-89, 479 Huntington Drive, Baton Rouge Louisiana 70810). Cpl. Wolf recovered two glass smoking pipes with what appeared to be Marijuana residue in each pipe as well as a small amount of a green leafy vegetable matter believed to be Marijuana. Ohmstede was then issued a Misdemeanor Summons for a violation of L.R.S. 40:1031 titled Illegal possession of Drug Paraphernalia and L.R.S. 40:966E titled Simple Possession of Marijuana.
Incident: Attempt First Degree Murder
Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of 8263 Skysail Ave. At approximately 11:45pm, a large group of people were involved in an argument. The argument escalated into one or more persons shooting into a crowd of victims. A juvenile was the victim of at least one gun shot wound. The injury is non life threatening and the victim is being treated at a local hospital. Persons with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 389-5000.
Incident: Bank Fraud & Theft
The owner of Mandeville Holding Company and B&D Properties reported that several of his business checks were stolen, forged, and cashed at various branches of AmSouth Bank. Six of his checks were written totaling more than $10,000.00.
Detectives identified the suspects as Gernisha Williams (B/F, 30 years old), Louis Henderson (B/M, 59 years old), Joseph Woods (B/M, 27 years old), and Trevoa Daigre (B/M, 35 years old).
Williams, Henderson, and Woods have been arrested. Detectives are still attempting to locate Trevoa Daigre.
Incident: Attempt First Degree Murder, Attempt Armed Robbery
Update
Continuing their investigation into the Attempt First Degree Murder and Attempt Armed Robbery of an employee of The Jefferson Lounge, 4336 Jefferson Hwy., which occurred at approximately 12:05 am this date, 1/11/07, Armed Robbery and Burglary Detectives, Sgt. Roger Corcoran and Cpl. Darryl Michelli, through investigation, identified the suspect and then set up surveillance of his nearby apartment complex, anticipating his attempt to return to his apartment sometime during the early morning hours. At 5:15 am, detectives apprehended the suspect as he was coming out of a canal attempting to make it back to his apartment. The suspect was identified as Ivan Brady, B/M, 17 yoa., DOB 4/12/89, of 4484 Floynell, apartment # 17. The baseball bat used in the crime was also recovered.
Brady was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, charged with Attempt First Degree Murder and Attempt Armed Robbery.
Incident: Attempted Armed Robbery
Detectives are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of 4336 Jefferson Hwy, the location of The Jefferson Lounge. An employee of the lounge was outside the rear of the building when he was approached by a black male. The black male was armed with a metal baseball bat or pipe and demanded the victim's money. The victim told the black male to leave and that he didn't have any money. The black male then struck the victim several times with the bat. The suspect was last seen running away from the area. The suspect is described as follows: Black male, mid 20s in age, approximately 5'5" in height, approximately 140lbs, wearing a dark colored jacket with a hood, a red stocking cap and dark jeans. Persons with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 389-5000.
Incident: Attempt 2nd. Degree Murder and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon
Attempt 2nd. Degree Murder and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon at 8707 Granite. On 1-9-2007 at approximately 4:02pm, Deputies responded to the prior listed address in reference to a 26 year old B/M being shot. Witnesses advised deputies that two B/M subjects were arguing when the accused presented a silver in color handgun firing approximately two shots at the victim. The victim was struck by one of the rounds in the torso area. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their wound. The wound is non- life threatening. During the course of their investigation, Detectives identified the suspected shooter as John D.Griffin 22 year old B/M. Deputies searched several apartments looking for the accused. The accused was arrested at an apartment in the 1400 block of Jasper. The handgun was also recovered. Griffin was processed and booked into the parish prison on the previous listed charges. On 1/9/07, Deputies with the S.C.A.T. Team and the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division conducted criminal patrols in the Mall City area. Deputies made the following arrests and seizures:
1. Kenji Gray - (Male 24) - Cited for No Light on License Plate.
2. Juvenile - (Male 14) - Arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Loitering.
3. Britten Severan - (Male 33) - Cited for Headlights Required.
4. Grant Marcell - (Male 18) - Arrested for Possession of Marijuana and No Light on License plate.
5. Andre Singleton - (Male 22) - Cited for No Taillights.
6. Steven Hawkins - (Male 20) - Arrested for Possession of Marijuana.
7. Freddie Dorsey - (Male 22) - Cited for No Seatbelt, No Light on License Plate and No Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker.
Deputies seized approx. 57.7 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $288.50
Incident: Burglary
Burglary at 15516 Tiger Bend Rd. location of Noah‘s Pet Store. On 1-9-2007 at approximately 7:25pm, Deputies responded to a burglary at the prior listed location. Sgt. K. Prejean observed that the front door to the business had been kicked in. Witnesses advised the Sgt. that a W/M 25 to 35 years of age fair complexion clean shaven approximately 5'6" inches tall 150 to 180 pounds wearing a green in color Polo type shirt and jeans was observed breaking into the store. The W/M was last seen leaving the store in a full size Red in color Ford single cab pickup truck unknown year and license plate. An employee from the store advised Sgt. Prejean that no items appeared to be missing at this time. Sgt. K. Prejean investigated this incident under file # 07-1960. Incident: Public's assistance in identifying unknown ATM suspect
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office "Financial Crimes" Division is assisting the Baton Rouge City Police Department and the United States Secret Service in attempting to identify the below listed white male subject.
Investigators are attempting to identify a suspect who is believed to have placed a "skimming device" on an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Chase Bank, 250 W. State. The card-reading portion of the device was combined with a small camera to capture both the ATM debit card information and the customers' personal identification number (PIN). This information has since been used to make unauthorized withdrawals from several customers' accounts. This device was placed on November 29th at approximately 6:40pm and discovered by a customer a short time later. Investigators believe the device may have also been previously used at the same ATM on W. State on November 17th.

Incident: Burglary
Burglary at 17732 Highland Rd. location of Red Nails. On 1-8-2007 at approximately 9:13pm, Deputies responded to the prior listed location in reference to an alarm. Deputies observed the door located on the south side of the business had been kicked in. Deputies didn't observe anyone in the area upon their arrival. A representative from the business advised Dy. M. Carrier that the cash register was missing along with $ 80.00 to $ 100.00 in cash. No other items were reported missing at this time. Dy. M. 3. Calvin Anderson - (Male 24) - Arrested for Urinating in Public.
4. Bernard Foster - (Male 32) - Cited for No Light on License Plate.
5. Travis Kenny - (Male 25) - Cited for Driving Under Suspension and No Light on LIcense Plate.
6. Anthony Caldwell - (Male 32) - Cited for Failure to Signal Turn and No D.L. on Person.
7. Roosevelt Brown - (Male 23) - Arrested for Drinking in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana, No D.L. on Person and Failure to Signal Turn.
Deputies seized approx. 73.2 grams of suspected marijuana with a street value of $366.00.
