Detectives are investigating a first degree robbery that occurred at 15128 Airline Hwy. the location of Albertson's Supermarket. At approximately 7:35pm, a black male entered the store and proceeded to fill a shopping cart with liquor. The suspect took the shopping cart out of the front doors. When the store manager confronted him, the suspect reached into his pocket and advised the manager to leave because he was armed. The suspect was last seen entering a dark colored Cadillac DeVille and driving south on Airline Hwy. Persons with information regarding this investigation are asked to call 389-5000.

Armed Robbery in the 6000 block Satinwood. On 9-15-2006 at approximately 1:26am the victims provided a ride to a 15-yoa b/m from 5755 Airline Hwy location of Dancers. The b/m subject had the driver of the vehicle drop him off in the area of Satinwood and Fern St. The subject advised the driver that he was going to get $ 5.00 dollars to pay for his gas. The subject returned to the vehicle with a small handgun robbing both victims of their wallets, cell phone and approximately $ 300.00 to $ 400.00 dollars in cash. The victims fled the area in their vehicle, but before they left, the vehicle struck the juvenile. The juvenile was examined at a local hospital for minor injuries. Deputies along with Detectives from the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division recovered the weapon used in the crime along with the items taken from the victims. The juvenile was arrested for the crime of armed robbery. Det. Sgt. Corcoran and Det. Dipuma are investigating the case under file # 06-62006.

Burglary at 2001 O'Neal Lane location of Walgreen's Pharmacy. On 9-14-2006 at approximately 12:11am, Deputies responded to an alarm at the prior listed location. Deputies observed the window to the drive up Pharmacy had been broken out. An unknown amount of items from the pharmacy were taken. Deputies are looking for a b/m subject approximately 5'2" to 5'4" inches tall 80 to 90 pounds in weight wearing all black with a black DuRag on his head. Accidental Shooting in the 12200 block of Troy Street. On 9-13-2006 at approximately 8:30 pm, Deputies responded to the ER at a local hospital in reference to a 15-yoa b/m with a gunshot wound. Cpl. Washington along with Detectives Banta and Stewart responded to the hospital to investigate the incident. Deputies learned that the b/m found a .22 caliber rifle in a wooded area in this neighborhood. The victim was walking with the rifle playing with it, when the rifle discharged wounding the victim. The wound was non-life threatening. The victim took Detectives to the location of the rifle. The rifle was recovered and stored by Crime Scene Specialist Freeman. The victim was turned over to the custody of his mother. Deputies from Scotlandville Substation along with Detectives investigated this incident under file # 06-61688.

On September 16th 2006, Alisha Y. Babski and Thaddeus J. Babski III of 11329 Landfair Avenue, Baton Rouge LA, surrendered themselves to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Division pursuant to an affidavit arrest warrants. These affidavit arrest warrants were issued based upon the following.

On September 1st 2006 the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) "Financial Crimes" Division was requested to perform a welfare check on an elderly Hurricane Katrina evacuee from the New Orleans area who was taken in by Alisha Babski and Thaddeus J. Babski III at their residence located at 11329 Landfair Avenue, Baton Rouge LA.

While performing the welfare check, the victim informed Detectives that she had been requesting to be moved to the nursing home in which her sister was living but denied. The victim also informed Detectives that she was not allowed to leave the room in which she was staying because she was led to believe she was in a hospital and leaving the room would disturb other patients. The victim further reported that she was not allowed to receive her mail or talk to her friends or family members. She also stated that she was not notified when she received any other phone calls.

Detectives with the assistance of the Governor's Office of Elderly Protection Services (EPS) found that the victim was of sound mind but had been misled about her circumstances. This constituted evidence of "Exploitation of the Infirmed". Detectives with the assistance of EPS removed the victim from the environment as she wished and relocated her to a safe haven with her sister.

After reviewing the victim's financial records, detectives from found expenditures greater than $100,000.00 by the Babski's that was not used for the needs of the victim. The investigation showed that funds were used to provide luxury items for Babskis, which included two (2) vehicles, customized recreation vehicles, lodging, plane flight, four wheelers, hotel bills, and other personal needs for the Babski's family.

Based upon this investigation, Alisha Babski was arrested for "Theft of the Assets of an Aged Person or Disabled Person" (Greater than $100,000.00), "Exploitation of the Infirmed", "Intimidating, Impeding, or Injuring Witnesses", and "Obstruction of Justice" and Thaddeus Babski was arrested for "Principle to Theft of the Assets of an Aged Person or Disabled Person" (Greater than $100,000.00) and "Exploitation of the Infirmed".

On September 13, 2006, Cpl. Stephen Hill and Cpl. Brent Travis of the Armed Robbery and Burglary Section of the Detective Bureau, arrested Christopher Carson, W/M, DOB: 7/14/88 of 1711 Goldenrod Avenue, Baton Rouge, La., for a Burglary and Theft which occurred at 9989 Burbank Dr., The Bluebonnet Place Apartments, the incident taking place on August 26, 2006. Through investigation, detectives were able to identify Carson and subsequently placed him under arrest, charging him with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, Felony Theft and Theft, this last charge of theft resulting from his having pawned the stolen item at an area pawn shop. Christopher was booked into the EBR Parish Prison on the aforementioned charges.

Continuing their investigation into the armed robbery of an individual on the parking lot of St. Alphonsus Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., which occurred at approximately 10:13 pm of August 31, 2006, Cpl. Brent Travis, Cpl. Stephen Hill, Cpl. Kent Landacre and Det. Steven Gallo of the Armed Robbery and Burglary Section of the Detective Bureau, on September 7, 2006, arrested Garrett Marler, W/M, DOB: 5/2/89 of 15623 Chanove Ave., Greenwell Springs, La. and a Juvenile for the armed robbery. Marler was additionally charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a juvenile and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The juvenile was placed in detention at the Family Court Center charged with armed robbery.

Attempt 2nd Degree Murder and Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm at 2113 Anne Marie. On 9-9-2006 at approximately 12:02am, Deputies responded to the prior listed address in reference to a victim being shot. Deputies were advised that several subjects were playing cards and drinking when the victim and the accused identified as James Anthony Johnson b/m, dob 9/7/1966, 5'11" inches tall approximately 165 pounds began play fighting. The victim struck Johnson at which time Johnson presented a handgun and fired a shot at the victim. The victim was struck by what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. The accused fled the area in a red 300 Nissan ZX. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds. On 9-10-2006 at approximately 9:30pm, Deputies spotted the Red Nissan 300ZX driven by Johnson on the night of the shooting in the area of Anne Marie. Detective Stewart along with Deputies from Burbank Substation arrested Johnson without incident. Johnson was transported and booked into the parish prison on the prior listed charges.
