Incident: Illegal Possession of Stolen Things
On Monday July 10, 2006, Uniform Patrol Deputies of the Central Substation stopped a 4 wheeler on Joor Road at Mickens Rd. for riding in the street. Uniform Deputies observed that the ignition switch had been removed and bypassed by "hot wiring" the atv. Deputies ran the VIN of the 4 wheeler, but it was not listed as stolen. None of the individuals operating the atv were able to claim ownership of the 4 wheeler so it was stored in an attempt to locate an owner. Uniform Deputies contacted the Auto Theft Division concerning the 4 Wheeler. Auto Theft Detectives, Lt. Brent Callender and Sgt. Mike Favaro, went to the wrecker yard where the atv had been stored and verified the VIN number. Sgt. Favaro and Cpl. Lann Wolf then were able to track down the owner by contacting the manufacturer. Upon contacting the owner of the 4 wheeler, it was learned that he had not yet noticed that the 4 wheeler was stolen. The atv had been taken from his residence in the Park Forest subdivision. The 4 wheeler was then returned to him in good condition and on July 13, 2006, the following individuals were arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Illegal Possession of stolen things:
1) Deaundre Williams, black male, DOB: 8/22/1988 of 2222 75th Street
2) Cody Minor, black male, DOB: 10/11/1987 of 10315 Toledo Bend
A third suspect, determined to be a 15 year old juvenile, was also charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and referred to Family Court.
The investigation is continuing to locate the person who actually committed the theft of the 4 wheeler.
