The School Drug Task Force responded to Scotlandville High School located at 9870 Scotland Ave, at approximately 11:20 a.m. in reference to a gun found in the book sack of an 12th grade student.
Major Payton, 17, of 5617 Prescott was booked into the Parish Prison for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon on School Property and violation of a weapon free zone.
According to reports, school administration received anonymous information that Payton was in possession of a pistol on school property. Payton was contacted at which time a unloaded .22 caliber revolver pistol was located in his book sack. Payton was escorted to the office at which time School Drug Task Force was contacted. Payton advised that he moved over the weekend and placed the weapon into the book bag. Payton advised he forgot the weapon was in the book sack until he opened the book sack at which time it fell onto his desk.
