On April 13, 2015 EBRSO detectives received a missing person’s report in reference to Taherah Ghassemi’s disappearance on April 11th. According to Ghassemi’s son she was last heard from on April 11th through a text message. When her son returned to their home at 4625 North Laurel Creek he discovered that her vehicle and cell phone were missing. On April 12, 2015 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Baton Rouge Police located Ghassemi’s vehicle at 9600 Chalma Avenue burned and completely destroyed as a result of suspected arson.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Ghassemi had just gone through a lengthy divorce and property settlement process with her ex-husband Hamid Ghassemi. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the ex-husband’s cellular telephone records. Detectives observed he received a telephone call at 12:45 a.m. the night the victim went missing. It was discovered that the call was received from Tyler Ashpaugh. Detectives also obtained a warrant for Asphaugh’s cellular phone records which placed Ashpaugh at the victim’s residence the night of the disappearance, at the location where the victim’s vehicle was located burned and at the victim’s burial site.

Detectives apprehended both Ashpaugh and Williams at their residences in Livingston Parish Sunday.

During questioning Ashpaugh told detectives that he accompanied Williams and Richter to T. Ghassemi’s residence where they abducted her, placed her in the trunk of her vehicle and transported her to St. Helena parish where they buried her. He stated sometime between abducting and transporting the victim, she was shot.

He further stated that the group returned a black Tahoe, the vehicle of interest released to the media early on in the investigation, to her ex-husband H. Ghassemi at his business Import One. He stated they returned to the ex-husband’s residence at which time he paid the men $10,000 for killing the victim. He also allegedly gave them a can full of gas to use as an accelerant to burn the victim’s vehicle. The three men then allegedly left and took the vehicle to Chalma Avenue where they burned and left it.

Detectives are attempting to locate Richter at this time. Anyone with information pertaining to his location is asked to contact EBRSO at 389-5000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 344-STOP (7868).

A press conference will be held tomorrow at Louisiana State Police headquarters at 10:30 a.m. Sheriff Sid Gautreaux, along with Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson and St. Helena Parish Sheriff Nat Williams will discuss further details of this multi-agency investigation.
