Unloaded Gun Found in 8th Graders Bookbag

The School Drug Task Force responded to a call today at approximately 12:30 p.m. to Crestworth Middle School, at 10650 Avenue F, in reference to an unloaded gun found in the bookbag of an 8th grade student.

According to reports, a 14-year-old 8th grade student brought the unloaded 9mm handgun, with no magazine, to school to show it off. He gave his bookbag with the weapon inside it to another 14-year-old 8th grade student. An anonymous student reported the weapon to the School Resource Officer on campus. No threats were made.

Both 14-year-old males are charged with Illegally Carrying of a Firearm On a School Campus and will be booked into Juvenile Detention.

The School Drug Task Force is a multi-agency unit made up of East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies and Baton Rouge Police Officers.
