Teacher Arrested For Battery of Special Needs Student - 11/04/13

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a teacher today for allegedly battering a handicap nine-year-old child.

Nerelyn Lava Soreta, 50, of 9935 Mollylea Ave. is charged with Simple Battery of the Infirm.

The mother of the child contacted deputies on November 1, 2013 in reference to a battery that allegedly occurred on October 30, 2013 at Jefferson Terrace Elementary school. Deputies viewed a video of Soreta pushing the child’s face with her hand and striking her several times on the leg. Deputies also spoke with a witness of the incident.

Soreta turned herself in to detectives this afternoon. She will be booked into parish prison for the above listed charge.
