Kellie Jolivette earned her Master’s Degree in Communication from LSU in 1996. She was employed as a Human Resources professional with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services for more than 13 years prior to joining the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in January 2009 overseeing hiring, promotions, employee benefits, policy and procedure and all other human resource operations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED EMPLOYMENT QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE EBRSO POLICY FOR BODY ART AND TATTOOS?
Body art is defined as, but not limited to, tattoos, brands, and intentional scarring.
· Mutilation, tongue bifurcation, and foreign objects inserted under the skin are prohibited.
· Body art to the head, neck, and facial area is prohibited.
· Body art cannot contain nudity, profanity, or be perceived as gang related, criminal, obscene, sexual, racial or detract from the professional image of the Office.
· Body art which is visible on the hands and/or arms while wearing a short sleeve uniform must be able to be completely covered by a single 3x5 index card.
· Dental ornamentation is prohibited. Capped, veneered, or natural teeth shall not be decorated with designs, initials, or jewels.
· Excessive and unusual piercings are prohibited.
· Tongue ornaments and facial piercings are not permitted to be worn while on duty.

Full-time, Entry-level Positions:
Corrections, Road and Communications Deputies are the entry-level, full-time jobs we most frequently fill.
Corrections Deputy -- Maintains the custody and security of prison inmates through supervision, observation and monitoring of inmate activities and enforcement of security policies and procedures.
Uniform Patrol (Road) Deputy -- General law enforcement work to protect lives, property and rights of the public. Work involves answering complaint calls and patrolling in an official vehicle, motorcycle or on foot to deter crime or apprehend violators or suspects; securing crime scenes, and enforcement of all traffic and safety laws.
Communications Deputy -- Performs radio and communications work on an assigned shift. Provides information to patrol units on calls in progress as well as other divisions as needed. Receives and shares data as appropriate with law enforcement agencies throughout the country. May be required to respond to calls for service in emergency situations.
Note: The EBRSO provides services to the community 24-hours per day, and as such most of the full-time positions require working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Reserve Deputy Program – Our Reserve Deputies are part-time, non-salaried, commissioned law enforcement officers. Reserve Deputies have the same responsibilities and duties as the regular deputies. Opportunities exist within the Reserve program for individuals to serve in all areas of law enforcement.

Uniform Patrol Deputy
|
· Minimum age of 18 years;
· High school diploma or equivalent;
· 1 year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified peace officer in a full-time position, whose job duties include armed duty with the power of arrest; or1 year of continuous active duty service in the military; or 3 years of full-time work experience; or 90 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or combination of work experience and college to be equivalent to three years of full-time work experience, where 30 semester hours equals one year of full-time work experience.
· No felony convictions and no convictions of perjury, false statement or moral turpitude charge as an adult. All other arrests and convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation.

· 1 year of communications-related, radio dispatch experience or law enforcement experience; or 1 year of continuous active duty service in the military; or 3 years of full-time work experience; or 90 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or combination of work experience and college to be equivalent to three years of full-time work experience, where 30 semester hours equals one year of full-time work experience.

|

· Must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation
· One of the following:
· 1 year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified peace officer in a full-time position, whose job duties include armed duty with the power of arrest
1 year continous active duty service with the military
· 3 years of full-time work experience
· 90 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university;
· An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university
· 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university and currently enrolled as a full-time student
· A combination of work experience and college credit to be equivalent to three years of full-time work experience, where 30 semester hours equals one year of full-time work experience

WHAT IS THE STARTING SALARY?
The starting salary for Corrections, Road and Communications deputies is currently $35,189 annually. POST Certified Deputies are eligible for state supplemental pay, which is $500 per month. EBRSO offers additional pay for certain educational achievements, like Associate and Baccalaureate degrees.

HOW DO I APPLY AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

Applicants for non-law enforcement/corrections positions will undergo a criminal history and credit check, oral interview and polygraph examination, medical examination and drug test.
Applicants for Corrections and Law Enforcment Positions, including Communications and Reserve Deputies, will undergo go a physical fitness assessment, criminal history and credit check, oral interview, polygraph examination, psychological risk assessment, medical examination and drug screen.
WHAT IF I HAVE A PRIOR ARREST?
Applicants who have prior arrest(s) must include a copy of the court disposition and expungement documents with the initial application packet. Dispositions can usually be obtained through the Clerk of Courts in the area where the incident occurred.
